WSBK Assen: Haslam confirmed with fractured leg

26 April 2013

Leon Haslam has been diagnosed with fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his lower left leg after an accident during the first free practice session of the World Superbike weekend at Assen.

The Pata Honda rider crashed during the closing stages of FP1 at turn seven, prompting a red flag period and an early conclusion to the wet session.

Taken to hospital in Assen, subsequent X-rays revealed the fractures, which will now require surgery. Haslam will be transferred to a hospital in Groningen, where a specialist will operate to pin Haslam's leg.

The injury is a bitter blow for Haslam, who was targeting a strong result on his visit to Ten Kate Racing's home circuit of Assen.

Haslam famously competed at Phillip Island in 2012 despite requiring surgery on a fractured tibia just days earlier.
