WSBK Monza: HTM working on WSBK return
11 May 2013
HTM Racing insists it is working on a plan to return to World Superbike competition after being forced to withdraw from its home round of Monza this weekend.
The team, which has made its WSBK debut in 2013 with veteran Italian racer Ivan Clementi, was not present during the opening day of action at Monza, raising speculation that it has withdrawn from the series altogether.
A statement later confirmed the team has pulled out of Monza with a view to organising itself for a return at the next event at Donington Park.
“The HTM Team Racing announces decision not to participate in the next round of the World Superbike Championship 2013 scheduled on May 12 at 'Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The decision was taken in order to allow the racing team and management of the same to plan better for the future and to the continuation of the sports season 2013.
“The HTM Team Racing proceeds in its commitment to sport, animated by the desire to achieve quality performance of relief but also investing in an ever more fruitful and focused, thus building their own future and analysing and improving their present with care and foresight. The HTM Team Racing will return to the track for the fifth round to be held on May 26 in Donington, UK."
HTM Racing has enjoyed a respectable season thus far having scored in all but one race so far this year, but its absence at Monza is another blow for an already slender WSBK grid. Together with Carlos Checa withdrawing through injury, just 18 riders are scheduled to take part this weekend.
