WSBK Donington: Haslam out of Donington round

26 May 2013

Leon Haslam has been forced to withdraw from his home round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship at Donington Park after deciding against racing with his injured leg.

The Briton broke his leg in an accident during free practice at Assen, an ailment that forced him to skip the Dutch round and the ensuing Monza event.

Plotting a return to action for his local round at Donington Park, despite obvious difficulties with the injury and the need to use crutches around the paddock, a gritty Haslam still qualified the Pata Honda a respectable 13th and was present for this morning's warm-up session too.

However, on reflection, Haslam has conceded he wouldn't be able to sustain a full 23-lap race distance in his current state and has thus opted to withdraw with a view to being fit for Portimao in two weeks' time.

Haslam's withdrawal reduces the WSBK grid to 18 riders.
