Laverty ‘surprised’ with front row

20 July 2013

Eugene Laverty says he was surprised to turn in a front row qualifying performance during Superpole at the Moscow Raceway after admitting it took him time to adapt to the bike in dry conditions.

The Irishman stands to make up ground on his main WSBK rivals in Russia this weekend after Tom Sykes was consigned to ninth on the grid because of a crash and Sylvain Guintoli is being hampered by a collarbone injury, Laverty making the most of the situation to qualify third.

Eyeing his fifth win of the season come race day, Aprilia rider Laverty suggests the front row exceeded his expectations.

"This was a difficult Superpole, quite chaotic, and in the end I'm a bit surprised with this third place. My pace yesterday and in the wet was very good and it took a few laps in Superpole to adapt to the new track conditions in order to push to the limit.

“The changes we made to my RSV4 during the test sessions after the Imola race also took a little getting used to, but in any case the bike is working well and with the right adjustments my feeling with it leaves me confident for tomorrow's races.”
