Checa wary of Silverstone’s fast sections

31 July 2013

Carlos Checa admits Silverstone's fast sections could hamper his hopes of building on the promise shown by the Alstare Ducati during the previous round at the Moscow Raceway.

The Spaniard was, for the first time since the Phillip Island opener, a consistent top five challenger throughout the timed sessions in Russia and though a first lap crash would scupper his chances come race day, a podium for team-mate Ayrton Badovini suggested clear progress for the 1199 Panigale.

Even so, Checa is wary of how the Panigale will perform at Silverstone its flat, fast stretches, the former champion suggesting the bike may struggle to replicate the pace it achieved in Russia.

“Silverstone is a very different track to Moscow Raceway – the English circuit has fast sections where you're riding full throttle, and that will mean a disadvantage for us.

“Having said that, I've always felt happy riding there and I hope to be able to continue the positive work carried out during the Misano tests and at Moscow during the practices. The aim is to continue to grow, build and carry this project forward.”
