Chaz Davies: Finally!

19 April 2011

Chaz Davies has propelled himself back into the World Supersport title hunt after claiming a long awaited maiden victory at Assen.

The Briton held his nerve in a tense, twice restarted race to claim a third consecutive victory for ParkinGO Yamaha and a maiden triumph for himself in 19 attempts.

Coming after a spectacular accident in qualifying that necessitated a complete rebuild of his Yamaha YZF-R6 overnight, Davies was thrilled to reward his team with a perfect result.

“Finally! I think that sums up how long I have waited for today to come. It's often a case of luck and I feel it has rarely been on my side in the last few years and so far this season. The bike is doing really well.

“After the accident in qualifying, the team had to work really hard all night to rebuild the bike and I think I managed to repay them for it. I'm looking forward to Monza now that I am officially back in the hunt!”

More significantly, the win – coupled to series leader Luca Scassa's retirement – has moved Davies up to third in the overall standings, just five points adrift of his team-mate and two points behind Kawasaki's Broc Parkes.
