Lowes upbeat over race prospects

21 February 2012

Bogdanka PTR Honda rider Sam Lowes feels everything is in place to enable him to challenge for the race win in the opening World Supersport race at Phillip Island on Sunday.

Lowes had set the early pace on the second day of the official test before dropping to fourth position at the conclusion of proceedings on Tuesday evening after losing time following a minor spill.

However, he remains upbeat on his chances and is confident he will be at the sharp end when it matters this weekend.

“The test was really good. We tried many things and started the week very well. I had a small crash with 20 minutes to go which set us back a bit but I ended the test in fourth position and I'm feeling really good on the bike so I'm looking forward to the weekend,” he said.

“Our race pace is really good. We've got a few things to put together to challenge for the win on Sunday but I'm confident we can do that.”

Jules Cluzel was also inside the top six on the PTR Honda with the fifth best time, marginally slower than Lowes.

“I am happy as I didn't expect to be fifth. I think the PTR Honda Supersport bike is quite nice. For me I have good points such as the traction control, braking strategy, chassis and the engine's power,” he said.

“I improved every session and I think it is normal because I did not know the bike before Monday. I am happy with the PTR team; it has a lot of experience, so I did not try to improve the bike, I tried to improve myself. For me everyone is relaxed and this is a good way to work.”
