Supersport race reduced to 15 lap sprint

25 February 2012

The opening race of the 2012 World Supersport Championship has been reduced to 15 laps due to concerns over high temperatures at Phillip Island.

With track temperatures around the Melbourne circuit creeping up almost 60 °C during Q2, organisers have decided to reduce the race to 15 laps amid fears that temperatures will continue to rise ahead of the season's first race.

Local rider Broc Parkes will start from pole position for Ten Kate Honda, with Sam Lowes, Jules Cluzel and Kenan Sofuoglu making up the remainder of the front row.

The race was originally scheduled to run over 21 laps.
