Sofuoglu looking to regain lost ground at Assen
Kenan Sofuoglu is aiming to get his 20112 World Supersport title attack back on track at Assen this weekend.

Winner of the opening round at Phillip Island, on his debut for the Kawasaki DeltaFin Lorenzini team, the former double world champion dislocated his knee during testing at Imola - and was then black-flagged after running off-track in the race.

All of which means the Turkish rider has slipped to third in the championship, 20 points behind surprise leader - and fellow ZX-6R competitor - Fabien Foret leading into this weekend's third round.

Sofuoglu, who used to live in the Netherlands, is a previous double winner at Assen in WSS.

“Assen is not a bad track for me and I think it will be good for us this weekend. In the high-speed sections and smooth sections you need a lot of torque and we have good torque on our Kawasaki,” he said.

Turning to his knee injury, Sofuoglu added: “I have been riding Supermotard at home in Turkey to stay as race fit as I can but I was still having a lot of pain in my knee until recently. My doctor in Turkey gave me some painkillers and with the help of those I can now ride for a lot of laps without too much discomfort.

“So it looks like everything is going well and I should not need another operation to remove the screw in my left knee. I am feeling better and better all the time. The only thing is that I feel tired today because I have done so many laps on my Supermotard bike!

“We lost some points at Imola but I am getting my confidence back, especially as I have been going well on the Supermotard bike. I hope I am 100% at the Assen race because I am really missing the feeling of winning again.”

Assen is one of the tracks he goes really well (ironically, so was Imola), he also scored his first (and only) moto2 podium there last year, could've even won if not for Marquez. I've no doubt a fully fit Kenan will win this round but this time he has to make sure he doesn't crash and aggravate his recent injury, or else the season will be pretty much over for him.

If Kenan could have made that last chicane with out hurting himself I am sure he would have made a good run of it @ that track which needs to be scrutinized for safety after what happened to Lascorz. Not expecting great race pace, as long as he finishes on the podium he will be in good shape, all Foret needs to do is safely DNF one of the races, and I am sure they will be fairly close together again. If not, Kenan will have to start winning most of the races before half way through the season.
