Philosophical Lowes made to wait longer

8 May 2012

Sam Lowes says he feels ready to break his World Supersport Championship duck at Donington Park after coming closer than ever to victory in the wet conditions of Monza.

The Bogdanka PTR Honda rider led for much of the race after assuming the lead on the opening lap when Broc Parkes crashed out, but his dreams of securing that long awaited victory seemed to have been scuppered when he ran off track on lap seven.

Returning to the circuit in second place, but four seconds off new leader Jules Cluzel, Lowes nonetheless embarked on a thrilling charge back into contention to get on his PTR stablemate's tail heading into the final lap.

Lining up for a pass at the last corner, Lowes did nose ahead but was unable to get the bike pulled in enough to prevent Cluzel from diving back beneath and sprinting to the finish line.

Despite this, Lowes was pleased with his performance and feels it sets him up for an even better result at Donington Park in less than a week's time.

“It was a good race. I enjoyed it. I made a mistake but apart from that it was really good and my Bogdanka PTR Honda worked fantastic; I felt great on it. We've been fast all weekend so we're getting closer. The conditions were very tricky but I had no problems with it and felt really good on the bike.

“Having been fast all weekend and taken a close second today it's a good boost ahead of my home race at Donington Park next weekend. I love Donington, I'm fast there so I hope for a good weekend and will be doing my best again.”
