Sylvain Barrier has laid down the gauntlet for his FIM Superstock 1000 Championship rivals with a dominant display during first free practice at Brno.
A year after securing his first-ever SSTK 1000 win around the Czech circuit, series leader Barrier was in fine form as he leapt to the top spot with a time of 2mins 03.990secs, almost a second faster than BMW Italia team-mate Lorenzo Baroni in second position.
Indeed, even Baroni was the only other rider to break the 2mins 05secs barrier, with Kawasaki duo Jeremy Guarnoni and Bryan Staring classified a fair distance back in third and fourth.
Local rider Ondrej Jezek was fifth quickest on the SK Energy Ducati 1098R, well ahead of factory-supported Barni Ducati duo Eddi La Marra and Lorenzo Savadori on the 1199 Panigale, the pair 9th and 11th quickest.
Ahead of them, Fabio Massei was sixth fastest, ahead of Christoffer Bergman and Markus Reiterberger, while Matthiew Lussiana rounded out the top ten.
Elsewhere, British rider Kev Coghlan was 12th fastest on the DMC Ducati, while new team-mate Robbie Brown was a respectable 19th quickest on his first outing aboard the Panigale in a 27-strong field.
