Sylvain Barrier's quest to restore his advantage in the FIM Superstock 1000 Championship got off to a solid start at Silverstone
as he topped first free practice.
The Frenchman is in the midst of a rollercoaster season aboard the BMW Italia GoldBet machine, winning three races, but also suffering three DNFs. As such, Barrier is currently second in the standings behind Eddi La Marra, but signalled his intentions in FP1 by going a tenth quicker than team-mate Lorenzo Baroni.
MRS Kawasaki's Jeremy Guarnoni led the way for much of the session but would slip to third position at the chequered flag, ahead of series leader La Marra on the Barni Ducati, while the in-form Bryan Staring – winner of the last two races – was fifth best.
La Marra's team-mate Lorenzo Savadori was sixth best, ahead of Ondrej Jezek on the ageing Ducati 1098R variant and local rider Kev Coghlan on the newer 1199 Panigale.
Christoffer Bergman and Fabio Massei completed the top ten, while Brno star Robbie Brown, who finished fourth on his debut after a magnificent charge up the order, was 18th best. Returning Pedercini Kawasaki rider Leandro Mercado, who has stepped back from his ride in the Superbike class, was 15th fastest.
