Sam Lowes has sent out a warning signal to his World Supersport rivals ahead of final qualifying at Assen by pacing the first dry session of the weekend in FP2.
Having maintained a quiet presence during a wet FP1 and Q1, Lowes was back to form aboard the Yakhnich Yamaha in FP2, going fastest with ten minutes of the session remaining before a quicker lap in the closing stages put him eight tenths clear of the opposition.
That opposition was headed up by the impressive Jack Kennedy on the RivaMoto Honda, the Irishman taking full advantage of competing on a circuit he knows from racing in the British Supersport Championship last year to go second.
Title favourite Kenan Sofuoglu was third fastest, heading up Roberto Rolfo on the ever-improving ParkinGO MV Agusta and Fabien Foret, who put in his first laps of the weekend after deciding to sit out the wet Friday sessions.
The Intermoto Kawasakis of Luca Scassa and Florian Marino wound up sixth and eighth respectively, the duo sandwiching the second Yakhnich Yamaha of Vladimir Leonov, while Christian Iddon – who starred in the wet yesterday – maintained his top ten pace in the dry to go ninth.
Elsewhere, the drier conditions would prove somewhat tougher for some of Friday's wet weather stars, with provisional pole sitter Andrea Antonelli only 17th quickest ahead of Q2 and Mathew Scholtz, who is provisionally third, in 14th.
The session was not without incident either with Matt Davies, Roberto Tamburini, Riccardo Russo, Sheridan Morais and David Linortner all suffering tumbles.
