Sylvain Barrier has convincingly signalled his intentions to get his FIM Superstock 1000 Cup title hopes back on track with a dominant performance during first free practice at Portimao.
Having been forced to skip the previous round at Monza when he was involved in a turn one pile-up, BMW GoldBet rider Barrier was straight back to form in Portugal, commanding a lead of 1.3secs over the opposition at the end of FP1.
His nearest competition would come in the form of Monza race winner Lorenzo Savadori, the Italian heading up a quartet of Kawasakis in the order of himself, Romain Lanusse, Jeremy Guarnoni and Leandro Mercado.
Elsewhere, Barni Ducati's race weekend got off to a difficult start with Eddi La Marra suffering a fall that would consign him to eighth quickest, while series leader Niccolo Canepa didn't set a representative time after suffering bike troubles.
