Coghlan repeats history with maiden WSS podium

4 September 2013

Twelve months after claiming his first FIM Superstock 1000 podium at the Nurburgring, Kev Coghlan is celebrating in Germany once again after claiming a long-awaited maiden World Supersport podium.

Coghlan has proven to be something of a revelation in his first season of WSS competition, the Scot often in the mix towards the front of the field, even if costly errors – namely at Aragon when he was challenging for victory at one time – have arguably scuppered a better results sheet.

Nonetheless, having come very close to some silverware last time out at Silverstone, Coghlan made no mistake this time as a charge up the order from a poor start that left him 11th initially would see him cross the line in third position.

Also a first podium of the year for the DMC Lorenzini Kawasaki team – champions last year with Kenan Sofuoglu -, Coghlan was delighted to be joining Sam Lowes and Fabien Foret on the rostrum.

“I had a bit of a bad start but then I managed to work my way through and in the last couple of laps I had enough pace to get past Russo and Zanetti. We have had some pace all year and some crashes mixed in with good results but the team have been supporting me and pushing me on. I hope we can get a podium or two more before the end of the year.”
