In terms of market relevance, then without a shadow of a doubt.

The IRC is a very flexible series, which allows manufacturers and drivers to pick a number of events to compete in without compromising the championship hopes, which is a big plus for everyone involved, especially the factory-backed teams, which can still promote their technology while choosing where and at what cost to showcase it. Of course, some events will have a stronger lineup than others, but hey, it's up to the organisers to step up their game and convince teams to do their rallies. And, while you do not always get all the top drivers head-to-head, it's better than nothing.

The key factor here is that the five manufacturers with pukka S2000 machinery are all in with a shout of winning rallies. If Skoda, Proton etc. entered the WRC they face a mountain to climb to take the game to Ford/Citroen, hence they prefer the IRC.

The only factor missing from the IRC is the presence of absolute top-notch drivers (the top four or five who can really drive quick) but below that, the IRC is every bit as good if not better than the WRC. Indeed, even the TV coverage is miles ahead & to the average guy in the street the IRC will, if it gets the marketing properly sorted, be the premier series.

I think the WRC need to wake up (& quickly).

Surprised at the amount of disagree's to some perfectly valid points.

It's an uncomfortable truth that IRC will replace WRC as the most relevant championship unless they wake up and make the WRC more manufacturer friendly and bring back the Monte Carlo rally !

You need more than two manufacturers...at least Ford produce the pukka Focus RS which sort of looks like a rally car....what do Citroen produce....the C4 VTS...don't make me laugh !

First post of the New Year for Twin Cam Sam

Happy New Year to all of the regulars - keep up the campaign in 2010.

The word 'pukka' reminds me of another Matt, Matt Wilson, or is it a word that rhymes with pukka, 'slow *ukka'....

On a serious note, as well as the manufacturers it is attracting, the IRC also has some of the classic events, the Monte being the obvious jewel in the crown. Imagine if the Circuit of Ireland becomes more than just a support event ?

At least the events are allowed to run to their own formats, unlike the clover leaf WRC events.

Also, the IRC is picking up talented drivers there on merit, unlike some of the talentless *ukkas in the WRC....
