WRC » Ogier rocks, Block rolls on Portugal shakedown

Sébastien Ogier continues to edge team-mate Sébastien Loeb for outright pace in the 2011 World Rally Championship, as Citroën lock out the top three on the shakedown for this weekend's Rally Portugal - and Ken Block goes for a roll

Ken Block is a slovenly clown and barely worthy of a nascar seat. Just one more instance of money and resources pissed away on what would otherwise be a decent ride capable of producing respectable results.

Go Loeb!!

Ken Block is the face of Monster Energy, regardless of how many shunts he has. As has been said about Matthew Wilson numerous times, Block is keeping no one out of a seat. If a driver secures the funds then he/she will have a car for them to rally in.

@Craig: The issue is more fundamental than that - by virtue of the fact that monster energy drink funds this fool someone else is denied the opportunity. Second, what does funding have to do with talent? With some exceptions, very little. In stead of wasting millions on him, I would allocate those resources to an effort to recruit and cultivate REAL genius (ie. Ogier).

@John: Raikkonen would destroy those clowns on any tarmac based racing series. A severe learning curve is to be expected from Raikkonen anyway. Block(head) and Wilson are supposed to be rally drivers, or at least rally-bred. If you put Block in an F1 he would look even more incompetent than he does now.

@RacerX1 - Block is a co-founder of Monster, he is paying for his own seat. Whats wrong with that ?
His dream has always been to drive in the WRC, he became a successful business man, created a WRC Team, bought a WRC car and now he's living his dream.

Personally I think Block is the best thing to happen to WRC for years. He is opening up the sport to a MASSIVE new audience and his video podcasts of the WRC are awesome to watch. He's basically become an ambassador of the sport, and I hope he stays for a long long time.

"Personally I think Block is the best thing to happen to WRC for years."

I've heard of one certain MotoGP rider that would eat Block on rally stages any time of day or night :)

I think it's better to have Block than not to have him. The same can be said for some of the other pay drivers, as the timesheets would look stupid with two wheel drives in fifth position on some events ten minutes off the pace.
Block has a colourful personality, which comes through in his driving. Check out wrc.com's photo of him rolling, amazing.
@CraigIrl: Forget your password already?? :P

I am at the moment looking at review of last years WRC championship and all I can say I am glad I have lived in the time when you had proper drivers and much better equal championships. Block and Raikonen dont deserve such good cars that they have. Ok we need people like them to make up the timesheets but as I said before there are a lot of capable drivers sitting at home.
The fact that they dont have the money to finance the drive needs to be looked at by both the manufacturers and the FIA.

@Craig. I wouldn't put Matt in the same league as Block. I might be wrong here and please correct me if I am, but Matts drive is mostly financed by M-Sport and Stobart. So he is financed by the teams sponsors who would sponsor the team regardless of the drivers name. If this is correct then IMO he's taking up a seat that should be given to someone more capable. Block and Raikkonen are backed by sponsors, that sponsor the drivers themselves and would not sponsor the teams without those drivers.

On another note even if Matt did finance his on drive, Block and Raikkonen bring visibility and interest to WRC regardless of their success, whereas Matt brings nothing more than one more also ran on the time sheets.
