WRC » Hirvonen, Ford strike back with Australia 1-2

Mikko Hirvonen: At the start of the season Jari-Matti and I agreed to help each other, and Jari-Matti showed today what a team player he is. He had a great opportunity to win this rally but he gave it up to help me in my fight for the championship and I appreciate that.

what a shame ford resorted to their usual trick of team orders, to slow latvala down. but citroen also did the same , in retaliation, stopping ogier in a stage, so seb could salvage tenth and a vital point. seb also got (deserved) his three points for fastest on super special.

what ever happened to COMPETITION?

@richard Agreed. WRC has gone to the dogs in recent years. And with team orders still going on, I think it's only a matter of time before I stop taking notice of the sport altogether. IRC is where it's at. Didn't the organisers of one of the rallies last year said they'd investigate and punish any team orders?

Team orders have always been a part of motorsport - and not just WRC obviously.

You only have to read Mikko's comment to see why Ford switched them around... Perfectly understandable and within the rules.

"what a shame ford resorted to their usual trick of team orders, to slow latvala down..."

BTW. You have a short memory. Citroen did the same in G/y on day 2 when they were way out front and on course for a 1-2.

@ Grant

It may be within the rules, but it doesnt make it right. I stopped watching WRC when they started all the tactical swapping of places for the final days running.

I'll check the results online from time to time, but if I'm not watching the events anymore, then others arent either ... & the nett losers are the sponsors & therefore the sport as a whole.

No Richard, you singled out Ford by saying it was 'their usual trick'. Clear to see where your agenda lies. It's part of the sport and unless it's banned then we'll just have to suffer both Citroen and Ford with THEIR usual trick.

chevron tinted/grant. i think you should re-read my comment. i said "but citroen did the same". that does not imply in any way, that i was favouring one team over another. and then i went on to say "what has happened to competition". again that emphasises that i abhor team orders from ANY team. i dont think it is right, and i will criticise any team that uses team orders.
