It's a circuit with a great history, grew up watching rallying videos, Jimmy Mcrae & Russell Brookes, Bertie Fisher, all in Manta 400's. Even Michelle Mouton with a mad Quattro sport....which blew up as usual.

Next year is shaping up to be a good year for rallying. Monte-Carlo is back in the WRC, Hirvonen is moving to Citroen, and Ogier is moving to VW and then Mikkelsen will be defending his IRC title on Irish soil, where he has so much experience, just makes it so much better! Can't wait.

Brilliant news, cannot wait to to see it......going to be a fab year for rallying in 2012

Re Circuit - Would love to see comparison of times on a classic stage like Hamiltons Folly say Mikkelson in IRC S2000 Fabia a "current" MK2, Fisher or McRae in Manta 400 and McNulty or McGarrity in Sub S12b WRC

'Circuit of Ireland' is misleading. Although there seems to be no rally programme at present, we will NOT have the classic rally of bygone years, that was when it DID circuit the country - particularly the Killarney Sunday run in Kerry, that was basically what it was all about (in the Open Mantas etc). As a kid I remember these good old days!!! Sadly I cannot see all this happening. Today's WRC cars would hardly even last and go this distance. We will likely see a few stages around the Dublin and surrounding areas

Forgot to add the Circuit of Ireland rally in bygone years took place over 4 days (Easter). Its not going to happen next year in just 2 days

Totally agree with the last 2 comments.
Went to 3 rallies outside Dublin this year and have to say that the roads around Dublin/Wicklow mountains would be ideal for rallying plus being close to lot of hotels etc it would make an ideal base.
They were used in Circuit of Irelands before, why cant they be used again, Perhaps start the rally up north and finish on the east coast.

It may not be the romantic circuit but it will be nice to see some of the fastest drives in the world race here, technology has moved considerably since the manta escort era Few years back they raced a group b spec quattro v a road going evo 8, the evo won easily
