WRC » Latvala: This victory is for the team

Jari-Matti Latvala: It's a fantastic feeling. It's one of my favourite rallies and it's the first time I have won the same rally in consecutive years.

Agree with all above - great drives from both Ford Drivers, waiting all year to see this kind of performance from them - badly needed boost for both, surely they are finalising plans for next year.......

Have to say great drive from Craig Breen also - I'm a massive fan of his so its great to see him back winning again, shame about the crash in Finland but such an emotional win for him in GB and great confidence boost for himself and Paul, Gareth would be so happy.....

Who says that Atko had a later version ?
Anyway the car did not make much progress compared to Ford and Citroen.
So do not compare a last year factory version against last year competition and a current year client version vs latest Ford and Citroen
That does not change the fact that Meeke is talented.
And congratulations to Latvala who dominated this event.

JoePike: I didn't say that Atko had older version, but that his team maybe cannot prepare it on the same level as Prodrive can. Whoever was behind the steering wheel of Prodrive's Minis was faster than other Coopers. Might be in drivers but Atko was in his late Subaru days on very high level beating even Petter. I know he was out of WRC for some time, but the speed should be there after three or four events. As he sad he wanted to be a second per kilometer slower than big guys, he must have known limits of the car.

What baffles me is why Atkinson didn't just do Rally Hokkaido and wrap up the APRC Title. He was never in with a good chance on WRGB in the first place, so he just made himself look like a fool.

To Markko
You are right, you were not the one to say that
In fact I was answering to DafyddLarcombe who
said it.
As I knew that Atko was using Araujo's car,I knew it was an old one
He should get the proper one in Sardinia ( the chassis used in Germany last month )
Sorry for the misunderstanding
:-))

Atkinson is a fast driver. Give him a well-prepared Fiesta and he'll show his pace. Remember Mexico? Regular top 7 times, one stage win... He was unfortunately blindsided by a low-rent team that will damage his WRC career, as it did with Araujo's. This car is lagging behind in development and is highly unreliable. If Atko tries to push, it will break. Plus, why do you think Prodrive avoids gravel events? The MINI isn't showing enough progress, BMW isn't backing it and Richards is desperately trying to sell the project's viability to privates. This thing has been a mess from the beggining. What a waste of driving talent.

Guys, I think you have gone off topic a bit talking about Atko on a article which was about JML. Interesting thoughts though. In fairness to Atko, what ever car he drove, he is still only back in the WRC a couple of events now so the results are not going to be great. He is a good driver though and he did have the beating of petter at the end of the subaru days.
In relation to JML, great drive but again it came when the pressure of the championship didnt matter. Dont get me wrong, I am a huge ford and JML fan but the guy is prone to mistakes when pressure is on. If nothing else, the win will give him confidence.
I would question Loebs tactics though. Ok he says he was on it to get 2nd and it was petter he beat who is no longer the driver he was. Being cynical, I think Loeb wants to tie up the title in France like he did a year or 2 ago. That is the real reason he wasnt fighting at the top in GB. That being said, i would still like to think that JML would have had the speed to beat him

For Joe Pike :

The Aroujo Mini was Uprgraded for Germany, where in fact Atko took over the car, but yes I also agree that the Mini has not had as much development as the other teams

Prodrive chose not to do Rally GB as they knew there was a bit of a Gap on Gravel, Instead they chose to compete on the black stuff as they know this is where the Mini is at its most competetive

But in all fairness a bit of lost performance will mean a minute over the 3 days, not what turned out to be 10 minutes, Meeke should be in this car, I think he would of been easily 6th overall, possibly higher

Clearly Prodrive are working very hard behind the scenes to convince Sponsors to back the project, if they did Rally GB and had a crap Result this would only weaken their case and spoil their pitch

I would guess that they are courting a Big Sponsor and they want a Top 5 Result on the next Rally to cement the deal for Funding in 2013 and beyond, you cant really blame them for wanting that, after all, no Budget no fun, I know this only too well - lol

DafyddLarcombe: I don't think this is true: "a bit of lost performance will mean a minute over the 3 days". Look at Mikko - he was minute and a half behind Latvala and we are talking about top Citroen and the guy who is there regulary.
