Petter Solberg: It was possible to win this rally but I made a mistake on Friday and that was disappointing for me and the team

"Solberg: I failed in Sardinia" - yes, you did.

Very disappointed with Petter this year. 13 points behind Ostberg (he's started 2 less events) in a private Fiesta tells its own story.

@Chris

Yes I see your point there but the difference is Ostberg was going for good solid point finishes this year where in Petters case on a lot of rally's he was going for the win and when you have drivers like Jari Matti, Loeb and Miko around he's taking a lot more risks which usually leads to a mistakes.

Taking nothing away from Ostberg, he is a great driver and I would like to see him and Petter as the two M-Sport drivers next year.

Billy, at the start of the year, petter had the same job as Ostberg. That was to score manufactuerer points for Ford. JML was the no.1 driver so to give petter the excuse that he was taking risks going for the win is not entirely true. Im with Chris on this one, Ostberg has been the best ford driver this year and particulary when you consider he done 2 rallies less. I am a huge JML fan but he and petter should be ashamed of their performances this year. It would be great to see Ostberg get the Msport seat next year and in all liklehood, Petter will prob be his team mate cos he seems to have good PR and marketing skills and Msport will need this to secure funding. they just wont get any results with petter and if malcom is prepared to accept this, then so be it.

I agree that Petter is probably a big pull when it comes to securing funding, if someone like Qatar is going to be the primary M-Sport sponsor for 2013 and beyond then maybe Malcolm should lock down all The Norweigan drivers, Petter as Number 1 and Mads and Mikkleson can share equal number two driver status

I have a feeling that Mikkleson could now step into a WRC car and be right up there, probably he and Mads would be very simular and both are heading in the right direction, as i mentioned previously, the Driver market is now unfairly steeped in VWs favour as they have the Top 2 drivers, albeit they may not have the fastest car for next year so this may even things out

Ford and Citroen and are almost identical situations with Mikko and Petter being of simular pace, Mikko doesnt push for wins and doesnt crash, Petter does and crashes, and the number two seats are open for the best of the rest in both teams

@DafyddLarcombe

You don't think Ott or Evgeny deserve a seat? Both have shown speed and both have good backing. I don't see Andreas being ready for primetime quite yet.

Mikkelsen will drive the 3rd Polo on some rounds next year so he is not available for Ford. Ford shouldn't have number 1 and 2 drivers, they should rather start on equal terms.
