WRC » Atkinson fights back to take sixth, hopeful of further outings

Chris Atkinson: It was a good comeback, we were 15th at one stage, so to get sixth is fantastic! Obviously, it could have been better, but I'm happy

How can someone say "we were 15th at one point" and "Im Really Happy with 6th" whilst driving aguably one of the best WRC Cars entered ?

And he hopes that this Monster Slaying Result (Not) will lead to more outings for the Abu Dhabi Citroen World Rally Team, Frankly If I were Kris Meeke I would be asking what I have dont to Upset Citroen after this slap in the face

For all those who thought this Guy was better than Solberg I have to wonder why, Solberg would of been fighting for the win, this Guy was fighting to stay on the road, it just makes me Laugh....

If you're gonna critisize him, at least make it constructive.
"one of the best WRC Cars entered"? Ignoring Loeb, then in fact I think the VW and the Ford are both better cars :p

@DafyddLarcombe

Geez your a bit harsh.

After hitting the Rock Atko thought he was out of the event.

The Team did a good job and repaired the car.

15th to 6th under those circumstances is a pretty good effort from all concerned together with the given competition

I'm with Daffyd on this one. Taking the penalty of 3mins 30 away from his time still only puts him 5th over 8 mins behind the winner.
This is nothing special and neither is Chris Atkinson despite what he says.
I mean 8 mins behind thats roughly 1.5 secs/km off the pace.

Points are awarded for where you placed at the finish line - not "how many minutes and seconds you finished behind winner".
Sebastian Ogier has spent a lot of time testing and getting use to his Polo R WRC in the last 18 months - as of Rally Mexico, Ogier would have logged up more hours in the Polo than Atko has spent in a Citroen DS3.
If Petter Solberg was so good and a constant finisher, why didn't the Abu Dhabi WRT call him up instead of Atkinson?
Kris Meeke didn't exactly set the WRC world alight in his short time with Mini.
A few things to think aboot. Well done, Atko !!!!

Why does everyone go on about Kris Meeke he didn't really show much tbh, sordo had it all over him at mini and i wouldn't say Sordo is a top flight driver, he has been 2nd tier even when hes got the best rides.

ill just assume Meeke gets all this attention because he is British.

Petter was usually fighting for a Podium place on every Rally, He was a potential winner every time he got behind the wheel, you simply cant compare him with Atko, also Meeke was really getting there and would of made a Top Driver, he was 3rd on Rally GB on his last Rally with Mini.

I just dont see Atko as a Decent enough driver to get regular drives in the WRC, sorry if some think its harsh but there are better and more promising drivers around who need the breaks

Getting back to the Chris Atkinson vs. the 'other potoentials' . The last full season with Subaru - end of year Atkinson had MORE WRC points thanmore experienced P. Solberg. ( I think it was Chris' 50 to Petter's 48 ). In the last 2 or 3 years without a full time drive, Atko has been called up by Ford a couple of times, Citroen about 3 times, Mini last 4 or 5 races of last season. If Kris Meeke was so fantastic and he did one part season with Mini, why did Atko get called up to drive for a Mini team last year instead of Meeke who had a lot more experience in a Mini in WRC events? As a fill in/stand by driver he has done alright and usually finishes top 10 for whoever he drives for.
Petter Solberg was good at fighting for 2nd. or 3rd. on last day and then crashing out...............

For Grant.

The Answer to your question about Atko getting all the drives and Not Meeke it really is very simple, MONEY !

Atko Leased the DS3 and just paid for the Ford Drive straight out. As we all know Meeke has bags of Talent and No Money, somethnig that sadly is a well know factor that faces lots of Rally Drivers.

This is the Reason I walked away from the Sport, I just got fed up with looking for Sponsors all the time and the costs were going up and up as i progressed. You need Talent and Money to get ahed in this Sport
