Q&A: David Bozian - EXCLUSIVE.
by Rob Wilkins
Bozian Racing's technical director, David Bozian talks exclusively to Crash.net Radio on the Thursday just prior to the start of the Wales Rally GB. Here he chats about their success this year in the WRC with the OMV Peugeot Norway World Rally Team and the performance of their drivers', Manfred Stohl and Henning Solberg...
David, what are your thoughts on the season overall?
It has been a very good one for us with four or five podiums, three for Manfred Stohl [it was four for Manfred after his second place finish in GB – ed], one for Henning Solberg - and one for Gigi Galli [who was entered in a Pirelli-backed 307 by us for three events]. Our aim will be to continue like that [on the Rally GB] and to finish well, because that is very important with the programme we have today.
Points wise this season you have done well and the OMV Peugeot team is easily the best manufacturer 2 team out there...
Yes this season we are going to win the M2 championship. But that has never really been a big objective for us, because our goal was to compete with the other M1 teams. I think we have succeeded. We did well against Subaru, especially as this year we contested only 12 WRC events in the manufacturers' championship and they did all 16. So, normally our position should be third.
Bozian Racing has got a history of running with Peugeots. Have you been pleased with the 307 WRC car this season and its reliability?
The reliability has been very good this season. We have been the more reliable team in the WRC this year, with practically no problems during all of the events. We are very proud of the reliability we have had this season.
Have you been pleased with the efforts of Manfred Stohl and Henning Solberg?
Yes we are very happy. Manfred has shown he is one of the best drivers in the world championship. In Britain he is going to fight for fourth place in the drivers' as he is only one point behind Daniel Sordo. So we hope that with his experience of this event, that he likes a lot, he will do something good here [Manfred eventually finished second on the Rally GB and took fourth spot in the drivers' championship – ed].
We are happy also with Henning, who achieved his first podium result in Turkey this year. We were pleased also with his first place [on the WRC candidate event] in Norway and with several other top five positions.
What are your plans over the Christmas and New Year period? Anything nice lined-up?
Yes, but the break will be very short, because we will have to prepare for Monte Carlo very rapidly. So, I don't know if we will have some holidays, it is a little bit sad to say. We will see, but we will be ready.
