Stobart Ford's Gigi Galli has been out of action since his massive crash on the Rallye Deutschland back in August, which left him with a broken leg. Crash.net Radio's Rob Wilkins caught up with the Italian recently to find out how he is recovering and what his plans are for the future...

Crash.net:
Gigi, how are you?

Gigi Galli:
I am getting better. I stopped using crutches one week ago and now I am starting to walk a little bit. I still look like a drunk because I am not very precise but it is okay. Everyday is getting better and the pain is disappearing. I am doing a lot of physiotherapy and everyday I go in the swimming pool. Last week I had another check-up to see how everything is and everything is okay.

Crash.net:
The last time you were in action of course was on the Rallye Deutschland, where you suffered that big off on the opening day. Has it been difficult being sat out for so long?

GG:
Of course - rallying is my passion and it is very important in my life. It is frustrating not being able to compete. However, we did do the recce in Catalunya. Just in order to stay involved in the sport and with our team. Hopefully we can recover mentally and physically quite soon and comeback to rallying.

Crash.net:
There was speculation around the time of the accident that you might be back for Wales Rally GB, I understand though, that you are putting all your efforts into 2009 now and returning then. Is that correct?

GG:
The plan is to forget this season now. [Ford boss] Malcolm [Wilson] and I have taken the decision together to save some funds for next year and to try and work to find support for 2009.

Crash.net:
Are you hoping to stay with the Stobart team in '09?

GG:
To be honest I would really like that because this year for me and my co-driver it was really good. We enjoy the atmosphere in the team. Okay sometimes we made some mistakes first of all and sometimes we had a bit of bad luck. But this is part of the sport. What is important is we felt at home within the team and part of a great family. Malcolm knows how to manage drivers and maybe one of the reasons is he was a driver himself. He knows exactly how people feel when they are in the car. This is very good and really positive. This is one reason I would like to stay there. I have a good relationship with everybody else too. They are all very passionate about rallying and I like that.

Crash.net:
When might you be in a position to confirm something for next year?

GG:
We are still working on that and I don't know at the moment. We are waiting for some answers from some sponsors. In the next few weeks we will have a meeting with Malcolm to talk about it. But I don't know yet. For sure there will not be an announcement before the end of November.

Crash.net:
Going back to your crash, did you consider at all hanging up your helmet for good?

GG:
