Munchi`s team to decide future next month?

Munchi's Ford World Rally Team lead driver Federico Villagra has confirmed that a decision will probably be made next month on whether or not the outfit will continue in the WRC in 2009.

Villagra, who failed to finish in Finland last weekend, after he went off the road in the penultimate test, his car subsequently bursting into flames, told Crash.net Radio prior to the event that he is hopeful the 'ice cream' squad will opt for a third season.

"They are working on it. It has not been decided yet," he replied when asked about 2009. "But there is a chance we will do it [the WRC] again next year. Something could be decided next month - maybe.

"[For now] we are going to keep trying to get some points on every event. We are pushing for personal points as well for the drivers' championship. We are trying to improve on each event.

"That is the goal for the season. If I can stay in the top-ten in the drivers' championship then that would be the achievement of a personal goal. For the Munchi's team we want to stay ahead of the Suzuki WRT and that would be great for us."

As for the recent '1000 Lakes' event, it was a disappointing one for the Munchi's men, with Villagra and team-mate Luis-Perez Companc, who was competing in the WRC for the very last time, both failing to get to the finish.

Villagra though remains upbeat and despite having to retire in the penultimate stage on Saturday, was happy with his pace and to be running twelfth overall. He is now looking forward to the team's next event in New Zealand, when Stobart Ford's Henning Solberg will be in the second car, making his third 'guest' appearance of the year under the Munchi's banner.

"We had a really strange accident near the end of stage 20," added 'Coyote'. "We slid wide into the ditch and rolled very slowly along the road. The car wasn't very badly damaged but it caught fire quickly which we managed to put out.

"It's a shame about this problem as we were going well and getting used to the very fast roads here and this was my first accident for many years. Finland is always a very difficult event, especially getting used to the high speeds, but we made a big improvement in our times from last year and for sure I can take these positives to our next rally in New Zealand; also on fast gravel."
