Ford of Europe ambassador Marcus Gronholm was amongst the world champions on hand to help coach members of the MSA British Rally Elite in the East Midlands this week.
Gronholm, who helped Ford clinch its double Manufacturer Championship victories in 2006 and 2007 at the wheel of an M-Sport-run Focus RS WRC, attended the two-day training session involving some of the best rally prospects Britain has to offer at Curborough Sprint Course, near Lichfield.
Former World Rally champion co-drivers Robert Reid and Phil Mills as well as current WRC competitors Matthew Wilson, Scott Martin and Daniel Barritt were also available to tutor on driving technique and pace-noting skills, with practical one-to-one sessions throughout the day.
Speaking at the end of the event, which in addition to focusing on in-cars skills also looked at sponsorship development and included members of the MSA British Race Elite as well, MSA performance director Reid was quick to emphasise the benefits of having the rally and race recruits in the same place at the same time.
"It was great to have both the MSA Race Elite and MSA Rally Elite scheme members working as one group," he reflected. "Both certainly took something from the collaboration.
"The venue was ideal for both driver and co-driver tuition - and as a place to bring potential sponsors to. I am looking forward to seeing how the members of both schemes use what they have learned here to help them progress in their respective disciplines."
