The organisers of the Castle Combe Rallyday have said that Mikko Hirvonen's presence at the event this coming weekend is just 'terrific' for the fans and the show itself.

Hirvonen is one of the big stars of the World Rally Championship and the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team number one is currently in the midst of battling for the 2008 drivers' title with four-time world champion, Sebastien Loeb. Mikko trails the Frenchman by just eight points with four rounds left to go in Spain, France, Japan and Wales.

"It is terrific to have Mikko come along with the latest Ford Focus RS World Rally Car and it does make a difference," Rallyday co-organiser Brian Stubbings told Radio recently.

"A lot of people come to the event to see different rally stars and having someone that is bang up to the minute and fighting for the championship is a real crowd puller," he added.

Hirvonen and the BP Ford Abu Dhabi WRT though isn't the only major outfit to support the event, as Mitsubishi will also be in attendance again, as it has been since the inaugural Rallyday back in 2001.

"Mitsubishi's support is fantastic. We have worked closely with the team based at Cirencester for a while now. They have supported the event with a World Rally Car for a number of years - and it is coming down again this year and Guy Wilks, the reigning British champion, will be driving it," Stubbings continued. "That is great for us.

"They also supply support vehicles as well, which we use to help with the Feature Stage set-up and that side of it. Between the displays they put on and that, it adds a lot of clout to the event - and it is all appreciated."
