Rallyday enjoys strong turnout again.

The Rallyday 2008 drew in over 10,000 people again this year, organisers confirmed today [Monday] following the eighth running of the Castle Combe extravaganza, which starred BP Ford Abu Dhabi's Mikko Hirvonen.

Hirvonen was just one of a number of 'names' at the show, which took place on Saturday September 20, and which also featured the likes of Mitsubishi's Guy Wilks and Gwyndaf Evans as well as Petter Solberg's co-driver Phil Mills, Nicky Grist, Pentti Airikkala, Terry Kaby, Tony Mason, Howard Davies, Russell Brookes and David Llewellin.

The event has regularly seen crowds around 10,000 in recent years and organisers Darin Frow and Brian Stubbings were delighted to see that momentum maintained.

"We had more than 10,000 people through the gates - and that is great news for us," Frow confirmed to Crash.net. "The feedback we have had so far has been really, really positive. The atmosphere during the event was great and there was a real buzz, helped of course by the brilliant sunny weather.

"Several of the regular Combe marshals said that haven't see the track as busy as it was - at least for a number of years.

"We were happy with the way the revised 'Feature Rally Stage' worked too and the drivers' all seemed to like the changes.

"Paul Bridgen and John Easton [from Mitsubishi] were both very pleased and John was happy to see the World Rally Car out on track as much as it was with Guy Wilks behind the wheel.

"The Rally Raid and Rallycross teams were also happy and are keen to come back next year.

"We are already starting to look to 2009 now and as well as the usual combination of attractions, the ninth Rallyday is almost certainly going to celebrate 100 years of Audi with a strong presence of the iconic Quattro from the Group B era. We also want to possibly spread the action around the circuit and include the infield a bit more. We will be discussing dates with the Circuit and announcing a date for next year soon, as the World Rally Championship calendar for 2009 is pretty much set.

"Finally, on behalf of myself and Brian, I want to say thanks to all those people who helped us make the Rallyday happen again - and thanks to all those people who supported the show.

"We will be back again in 2009!"
