Loeb`s jump start penalty canned.

Sebastien Loeb's winning margin on Wales Rally GB has grown to 12.7 seconds after his jump start penalty for SS18 was removed, organisers have confirmed.

"Officials discovered a glitch in the timing system after reviewing all the times for the stage," read a statement to the press.

"However, Loeb was unaware the penalty had been rescinded as he completed the rally's final stage [SS19], battling for the win with Jari-Matti Latvala."

As a result, it is no longer the closest finish ever on Rally GB. That remains the 2004 edition, when Petter Solberg beat Loeb by 6.3 seconds.

Maybe I am spoiled but this penalty reminded me FIA''s attempts to spice up the title battle in F1. I am surely not the only one thinking that way, am I?

alfista, i doubt that it was deliberate. the cars all have electronic gizmos to enable correct starts. seb, at the end of the stage, said that there was no way the start the jump, and elena , when asked, categorically replied NO. whatever the reason/glitch, it made for a stunning climax. did you see seb ditch-hooking with the entire car , on a left-right-left. magnificient.
