DAKAR: Day One highlights.

Nasser Al-Attiyah took the early lead of the Dakar Rally, winning the opening stage to secure the advantage ahead of Carlos Sainz.

Al-Attiyah's team-mate Guerlain Chicherit had been setting an impressive pace but rolled and lost seven hours, while the Mitsubishi of Hiroshi Masuoka also ran into problems.

Marc Coma took the early lead on two wheels after a day full of problems for his rivals - putting him more than 22 minutes clear of anyone else.
