Stobart Ford new boy Urmo Aava had to be content with tenth place on Rally Ireland last weekend after a crucial error in the final test on day one dropped him out of contention.
Aava, who was making his debut in an M-Sport-run Focus RS WRC08, made a brilliant start and he was at the top of the leaderboard following the first loop, 6.7 seconds up on Sebastien Loeb.
However, his hopes of a good result were dashed when he slid off the road in SS6 and beached his car in a ditch 6.6 kilometres into the 25.19 kilometre Aughnasheelan test.
Despite this setback though, the Estonian was able to re-join the fold on day two under the SupeRally and he went on to fight his way back up the order and claim three manufacturers' points for his team.
Speaking at the finish, Aava noted that the time in the car will definitely help for the future.
"I'm very happy that we were able to lead a WRC event and get points for the team in our first event with them,” he reflected.
“This rally has been very important to us because we got a lot of time in the car, which we are still learning about, and this gave us good experience. The car went very well and we had no problems at all with it.
“One mistake cost us a lot of time but apart from that the rest of the weekend was good."
