PSM Motorsport Ltd and RX150 Racing have confirmed that Peugeot UK driver Kris Meeke will contest rounds two and three of the 2009 Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Open Championship, which takes place at Nutts Corner, near Belfast, on 25-26 April 25th and 26th.
The Irish ace, who will contest a full season in a Peugeot UK-supported 207 S2000 on the burgeoning IRC circuit this season, will use an RX Racing prepared RX150 at the event, as rallycross makes its return to Northern Ireland for the first time since 2004.
The event which is set to be one of the biggest on the UK rallycross calendar in 2009 has attracted a lot of interest from both national and international rally drivers and is set for a bumper entry, but Meeke is undefeated in the RX150 category, having contested two events and emerged victorious on both occasions. His confirmation for Nutts Corner comes just a week after he starred on the recent Monte Carlo Rally, taking a stage win and running as high as second overall before retiring.
The RX150, meanwhile, continues to make waves on the rallycross scene, prompting debate about whether it deserves its place on the bill, but still generating great interest, particularly from drivers looking to keep their hand in between rally events. The tiny vehicles also made a dramatic appearance at the Wembley Race of Champions before Christmas, and will feature in all eight rounds of the Fuchs Lubricants Rallycross Open Championship, which kicks off at Croft on 22 March.
