The Munchi's Ford World Rally Team will make its return to the World Rally Championship this weekend as the series heads to Cyprus for the third round of the year.
The team has taken advantage of a change in the regulations for the 2009 season which allows it to run as a manufacturer team despite having only one car entered for eight events, with Argentine champion Federico Villagra at the wheel of a Focus WRC.
Villagra has only competed in Cyprus once before, back in 2005, but will look to improve on his best finish of 27th, although he admits that the mixed-surface nature of the event will make it a difficult rally to contest.
“I'm very excited to be back racing in the WRC,” he said. “It feels like it has been a long time since my last event last season. It is great to be taking part in eight rounds of the WRC this season and I'm very happy to be back racing with Jorge. We have had a really good test and I am looking forward to the rally.
“Cyprus is going to be very interesting. The stages are very long and it is going to be a new experience driving on different surfaces in the same rally. I think it is also going to be very hard on the brakes and it will be tough mentally and physically.”
