Petter Solberg produced an impressive display on the second day of Rally Cyprus to put himself firmly in contention for a place on the podium.
Solberg started the day in fifth place but made up one place on the second stage of the morning when Jari-Matti Latvala went off the road.
That still left the Norwegian with plenty of work to do to make an impression on Dani Sordi in third but Solberg stormed to victory in both SS10 an SS11 at the wheel of his Citroen Xsara and turned a deficit of well over a minute into one of just 16 seconds going into the final three stages.
“It's unbelievable, really,” Solberg said. “It's great news for a small team like ours, with the resources we have. We can't really afford to do the whole championship but this is going to help us all - including our sponsors.
“It feels like we're starting again, you know, like having a factory contract again. We're fighting like in the old days. Of course I'll try to catch Dani tomorrow - I've been doing that all day!”
