The Munchi's Ford World Rally Team will make its first appearance on Rally Portugal this weekend, with Federico Villagra looking to try and build on his solid outing in the opening round of the year for the team last time out in Cyprus.
The Argentine driver picked up both driver and manufacturer points with a solid run to seventh place on the mixed surface event and will now tackle the Portuguese stages for the first time in his career.
The event will also be the Portuguese debut for the team, which had been due to compete back in 2007 before Pablo Companc, brother of former Munchi's driver Luis Perez Companc, was injured during an Indy Lights test session, forcing the Munchi's squad to pull out of the rally before it started.
While this weekend will be his first outing in Portugal, Villagra said he was confident for the event and said his aim was to try and add to his points tally.
“Portugal will be a new experience for me but we had a fantastic start to the season in Cyprus so I am quietly confident,” he said. “It was very encouraging to score both driver and manufacturer points on our first outing and obviously our main aim for Portugal is to learn the rally and pick up some more points.
“I think some of the roads might be quite similar to back home in Argentina so hopefully I can put my experience of my home championship to good effect. It would be great for us to get a nice result here ahead of my home WRC rally in Argentina next month.”
