PWRC: Late drama for Brynildsen in Argentina

Production World Rally Championship title hopeful Eyvind Brynildsen has been forced into a late car swap after his Mitsubishi Evo IX was shipped to the wrong country ahead of Rally Argentina.

The Norwegian's Ralliart New Zealand-run car was shipped to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil instead of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires and was promptly sent back to New Zealand by customs.

However, having faced the prospect of missing an event where he could move into the PWRC lead, Brynildsen was able to rent a car used by Munchi's Ford WRT driver Federico Villagra during his 2008 Argentinian National Rally Championship campaign, with the rented Evo IX being delivered in time for shakedown and the opening Super Special stage of the event.

“The car is an Evo Ix, like my regular car, bit with a quick re-prep, it's not in the best shape,” Brynildsen told WRC.com. “It might not be the ideal situation, but we have to handle it and do our best. We'll see on Sunday how we get on.

“I can't afford to destroy the car. We'll start the first day and let the other guys do their best. I won't be pushing too much and risking the car. From then on, we'll see, but I will be very happy and glad if I can get through the three days and take some points from here.”

Brynildsen lies third in the PWRC standings going into Rally Argentina but could take the points lead with victory as Armindo Araujo and Patrik Sandell have both elected to miss this weekend's event.
