Petter Solberg said he was delighted with his performance during the opening day of Rally Argentina after the former WRC title winner ended day one in fourth place.

At the wheel of his Citroen Xsara WRC, Solberg was able to keep pace with the leading runners throughout the day and will start the second day of the event barely two seconds behind defending champion Sebastien Loeb.

Solberg also took a stage win at the wheel of his 2005 car and will now aim to make the most of his road position on day two to fight for a place on the podium.

"I'm really happy about today," he said. "Being fourth is a good position for tomorrow, and it's only a couple of seconds behind Loeb. We found the perfect set up for the car this morning, and it was really good.

"We lost a few seconds on the two first stages, as were caught in the dust, but took some time back when were fastest on stage four. Tomorrow will be really exciting."
