Mikko Hirvonen has been forced to retire from day two of Rally Argentina following overheating problems on his Ford Focus in SS15.

Hirvonen lost time during the 15th stage with the issue and then worked in vain to fix the problem on the road section heading to SS16. However, it proved impossible and the Finn was forced to retire from the day, with it currently unknown if he will restart on Sunday under SupeRally.

"At the moment, we don't know what caused the problem," team boss Malcolm Wilsons said. "These stages are so rough that we won't know the problem until we get the car back.

"It's disappointing because things were extremely close here and the battle with Sebastien had given Mikko the confidence to really fight. Now we just need to move on from here. There's a possibility of SuperRally but when the engine has been run at that sort of temperature, until we get the car back we won't know. If we can then we certainly want to."

Hirvonen had scored points on 22 consecutive events prior to the Argentina.
