Fresh from his podium finish in Argentina, Henning Solberg will look to extend his lead over brother Petter in the WRC standings on the sixth round of the season in Sardinia.
The Stobart VK M-Sport driver took a fine third place finish in Argentina last time out to open up a six-point advantage over his younger brother in the championship standings.
Retirement in Argentina for Mikko Hirvonen also allowed Solberg to close to within ten points of third in the championship standings and he now makes the trip to the Mediterranean looking to add points to his current tally of 20.
Ahead of the event, Solberg and co-driver Cato Menkerud have worked hard on the set-up of their Ford Focus on gravel, with Solberg stating they were hopeful of reaping the benefits.
“Now that we have managed to open up a gap to Petter in the championship, it will be important to get more points here, so I'd like to think we could finish inside the top-five again,” he said. “The podium in Argentina was fantastic and it was exactly what we needed and at the right time. It helped so much with our sponsors back home in Norway and they really appreciate the extra media coverage.
“We have gone back to basics with the gravel set-up and not tried to over complicate things; it worked in Argentina and hopefully it will be the same next week.”
