Loeb tops shakedown in Sardinia

Sebastien Loeb posted the quickest time in shakedown for Rally d'Italia Sardegna as the Frenchman looks to extend his winning run in the 2009 season to six events.

Loeb posted a quickest time of 3min 15.0secs on his third run through the gravel test close to the Olbia service park, with the shakedown being held during dry conditions with clear skies throughout.

The Citroen man ended up little more than a second clear of the Stobart Ford Focus of Henning Solberg, although he conceded that the shakedown test wasn't likely to give a representative view of the weekend ahead.

“It was okay but not so representative of the rally,” he told the official WRC website. “There were a lot of uphill hairpins, so it was a bit different to the actual stages. I just tried to see if everything was going well on the car and if the set-up looked okay. It was alright, so I had no problems.”

Loeb also added that he felt he could lose 'nearly a minute' on the opening day, when he will face the prospect of sweeping the road for the cars behind during the first leg of the event.

Behind Loeb in the shakedown test, Henning Solberg outpaced younger brother Petter, who will be making his first outing in his updated 2006-spec Citroen Xsara WRC.

Dani Sordo in the second of the works Citroens slotted into fourth place, while Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala posted the same time at the wheel of the works Ford Focus WRCs.
