Solberg confirms car choice for Spain, GB

4 September 2009

2003 World Rally champion Petter Solberg has announced that he will stick with Citroen for the final two rounds in the 2009 World Rally Championship, however he is trading in his Xsara for a C4.

Solberg, who opted to sit out this weekend's Repco Rally Australia, the tenth round in this year's championship, has been in discussions with both Citroen and Ford for several weeks now.

However, follows several tests and further talks today he has now made his decision and will drive the Citroen C4 WRC competitively for the first time on the Rally de Espana, which runs from October 2-4.

"I have tested the Citroen C4 and I'm quite certain that this is the best car for me," Solberg explained. "Citroen gave me a good offer, and I do believe that driving this car gives me a proper chance to fight for podium."

Solberg will use a 2008 spec C4 - although adjustments will be made to it, and it is believed that this will make it 'close' to the 2009 spec cars driven by multiple world champion, Sebastien Loeb and Dani Sordo.

"I got good offers from Citroen and Ford, but after evaluation I decided to go for Citroen and the C4 for the next two events," Solberg added. "This will also give me valuable information regarding my plans for next year."

Solberg has competed in all the events this season, bar Ireland and now Australia. He currently sits sixth in the driver's championship with 25 points - his best results two podiums in Cyprus and Sardinia.
