Ogier returns to scene of World Rally Car debut

Sebastien Ogier eyes more points as WRC season draws to a close with Rally GB.
Sebastien Ogier will be gunning for his fourth points finish in a row on the Rally of Great Britain next weekend.

Ogier currently lies eighth in the 2009 WRC drivers' championship standings and the trip to Wales will be a significant one for the youngster as it was on the 'RAC' that he made his debut at the wheel of a World Rally Car just twelve months ago.

Ogier was sensational then and led early on and now he reckons a podium might be a possibility, something he has already managed once this year, when he was second on the Acropolis Rally of Greece.

“This will be the very first rally that we have driven before with a WRC car,” Ogier stated in the countdown to final round in the 2009 World Rally Championship.

“I don't think that this will give us any particular advantage, but it should certainly make things a little bit easier.

“I also hope that the conditions will be a little better than they were last year. As the rally is running a month earlier, there should at least be no ice this time. We're coming to Rally GB with no particular pressure.

“The idea is for us to get quickly up to speed and aim for a good result. A top-five finish would be great, but if the podium is within our reach then we will do everything possible to really go for it.”

Ogier will be nominated to score manufacturers' points for the Citroen Junior Team on Rally GB, along with 'new boy' Petter Solberg. Conrad Rautenbach and Aaron Burkart meanwhile will also run under the CJT banner.

“I've always loved this rally,” said Rautenbach prior to his fifth participation on Rally GB. “I feel at home here and I've got loads of supporters. The stages are fantastic, especially those run on the first day. It's going to be a very nice rally. I hope I get a good feeling with the car and finish in the points.”

For the record, Evgeny Novikov will not start the final round of the season. The team stated this was because of 'some of the difficulties he has experienced on certain rallies this year'.
