Disappointing end for Gould

Adam Gould retires from his run on Rally Scotland with the BFGoodrich Drivers' Team after water pump issue
Adam Gould endured a disappointing end to his outing for the BFGoodrich Drivers' Team after being forced to retire from the final round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Scotland.

Gould had secured the drive in the Kronos Racing-run Peugeot 207 S2000 for the Scottish event and held a podium position after the first two stages of the event.

A spin on Friday morning saw him lose valuable time and then a water pump failure as he exited service forced Gould to call it a day and retire from the event and the 22-year-old admitted he was gutted to be out of the event.

"The water pump failed on the way out of service," said Gould. "There was no warning about this, nothing. We were just driving to the refuel when the light came on. With no water pump, the engine would have overheated quickly. I can't begin to tell you how disappointing this is.

"I had a terrible morning; we had a spin in the second stage and it just wasn't really happening. At the time I thought: 'Okay, let's get to service and then use the afternoon to get more miles under our belt and get on top of this car'. That was the plan. Now that plan's finished. I can't believe it's over. We have gone from the highest of the highs at winning this drive to come down this point. Like I said, I can't quite take in the fact that we're out and we're not going to be driving this fantastic car again today."
