Crash.net’s Top 10 WRC Drivers: Seventh

Martin Prokop secures seventh place in your vote to find the top driver from the 2009 WRC season
It may have taken him until the fifth time of asking, but Martin Prokop enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Junior World Rally Championship in 2009 to secure the title for the first time.

The Czech driver was the dominant man throughout the JWRC season at the wheel of his Citroen C2 S1600 and won three of the six events he contested during the season. Two additional podiums also helped Prokop in his bid to lift the title, with his only retirement coming in Spain in what was the final event for the Junior brigade. By then however, the title was already secured thanks to his victory in Finland.

As well as lifting the JWRC title, Prokop also came close to what would have been a stunning double as he took on the challenge of also contesting the Production World Rally Championship.

There, Prokop took two victories in Australia and Great Britain to end the season just three points behind title winner Armindo Araujo, with an exclusion in Argentina while lying in sixth place ultimately playing a large part in him missing out on a second title.

Having been voted seventh in your list of top WRC drivers from 2009, Prokop has already announced he will run in a new S2000 Ford Fiesta next year as part of a long-term plan to move into the WRC proper in 2011.
