Quick but inconsistent. A short phrase which summed up how Jari-Matti Latvala performed during the 2009 campaign.
The young Finn endured a tough start to the year as he scored just twice in the first five events of the year – which included his monster accident in Portugal where he rolled his Focus down the side of a mountain.
Things took a turn for the better in Italy where he led a Ford 1-2 ahead of team-mate Mikko Hirvonen, with another podium following in Greece next time out.
However, in Poland, Latvala threw away second place on the final super-special stage when he crashed into a barrier – raising question marks about his future in the team.
Ford boss Malcolm Wilson stood by his young driver and Latvala scored points on all the remaining events – including third in Finland – but will need to raise his game in 2010 to aid Ford's championship challenge.
Despite his rollercoaster season, you voted Latvala fifth in the driver of the year poll.
