Prokop confident ahead of SWRC opener

Martin Prokop looks for a strong start to his SWRC campaign in Sweden
Martin Prokop says he is hopeful of a strong start to his SWRC campaign in Sweden in what will be his first outing in the new Ford Fiesta S2000.

Prokop moves to the SWRC for the new season with his Czech Ford National Team and heads to Sweden on the back of a successful test with the car in Norway at the weekend.

The former PWRC and JWRC runner also drove in the official pre-event test in Sweden on Monday and said he was looking forward to his first run in the Fiesta.

“On Sunday, we had the private test, in which we had Marcus Gronholm's set-up data at disposal,” he said. “It was great to have them for comparison. We tuned the set-up to suit me and also the car. On Monday, we participated together with another crews – and also Czechs – at the official test held in Sweden. It was shame, the conditions on the special stage changed after few passes, so hardly to compare.

“In Sweden, there is not so much snow as it was in previous season in Norway. But it is freezing. I expect that ruts may arise, and maybe in the second loops we will get through ice and snow to the gravel. However, the gravel should stay frozen, so I'm not afraid of mud.

“What about my expectations? We will see after couple of special stages. After the test we know, we should be faster than production cars, but we will see how we compare with competition of Scandinavian drivers behind the wheels of S2000 cars. But certainly, we will go to enjoy the ride. It means fast and little bit aggressive, exactly what Fiesta likes.”
