After a challenging start to the campaign, Dani Sordo secured his first podium finish of the 2010 season with third place in the sixth round of the World Rally Championship in Portugal.

Although unable to match the pace of Sebastien Ogier and Sebastien Loeb, Sordo was able to take third place after a battle with Mikko Hirvonen and Petter Solberg on the final day.

It allowed Citroen to extend its lead over Ford in the manufacturers' championship and took pressure off the Spaniard although he looks likely to retain his place with Citroen next season; team boss Olivier Quesnel having suggested in Portugal that he was keen to run Loeb, Sordo and Ogier in 2011.

"I'm proud to give this result to the team," said a breathless Sordo after the finish. "We could have been a bit closer to the two Sebastiens, were it not for a few minor problems, but the most important thing was to score the maximum number of points for Citroen.

"I'm happy to have finished the first half-season on a high note and I can't wait to race in the rallies on asphalt."
