Latvala moves up to P1 in Finland

BP Ford Abu Dhabi's Jari-Matti Latvala moves into the lead in Finland and pulls out a solid 10 second cushion.
BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team number two Jari-Matti Latvala has taken the lead on Rally Finland and he now heads into final stage of the day - the short 4.19 km Laajavuori forest test - 10 seconds ahead of Petter Solberg.

Latvala put in a charge this afternoon, winning three of the five stages, to close up on 'Hollywood' and then pull out a solid cushion.

Solberg was unable to match Latvala's pace and slipped back, while Sebastien Ogier and Sebastien Loeb both moved ahead of Dani Sordo and up into third and fourth. Sordo slipped down to P4 in SS7, before losing another place in SS9.

Britain's Matthew Wilson rounds out the top six, after his Stobart Ford team-mate Henning Solberg went out in SS8 when he rolled his Focus RS WRC car near the start.

Fellow Ford man Khalid Al-Qassimi also had problems on the second loop and he crashed in SS6. The BP Ford Abu Dhabi WRT 'third' driver had been running ninth, just in front of four-time WRC champion Juha Kankkunen.

Kankkunen, who last drove a WRC car eight years ago, is now up to P7, 32.2 seconds off Wilson and 11.6 seconds up on F1 2007 world champion, Kimi Raikkonen. The 51-year-old had a good afternoon - his best efforts, two seventh quickest times in SS8 and SS10.

SWRC class leader, Juho Hanninen and Matti Rantanen complete the top ten, ahead of Mads Ostberg and P-G Andersson. Ott Tanak is the top runner in the PWRC, 18th overall, and over a minute up on his closest class rival.

The opening leg now concludes with a second run through Laajavuori, the 4.19 km test that kicked off the event last night.
