Solberg happy with French podium

Petter Solberg celebrates a podium finish on Rally France
Petter Solberg said he was pleased with a podium finish on Rally France as the former champion helped Citroen to lock-out the top three places.

Although unable to match the pace of works drivers Sebastien Loeb and Dani Sordo out front, Solberg came out on top of a heated battled with the Ford of Jari-Matti Latvala to earn third.

That was despite a scare when he briefly ran off the road on the final day, although Latvala wasn't able to find a way ahead.

“I am really happy about the result this weekend,” Solberg said. “We didn't get to test on muddy conditions before the rally, so it took us some time to figure out the perfect set up. But on Saturday evening we found it, and from then we have been on the pace.

“It feels quite good to be here on the podium today, together with the two Citroen drivers, and I have really enjoyed the fight this weekend. I have to admit that I thought Latvala would catch up on us, when we went off and lost some time on the second stage today, but luckily he didn't.”

World Touring Car Championship leader Yvan Muller joined Solberg for the weekend running in the older Citroen Xsara WRC and finished 42nd, having been forced to restart under Super Rally following a retirement on day one.
