IRC: Meeke out to get his own back

Kris Meeke: After having my victory taken away from last year I'd love to get my own back and get that Scottish win.

Peugeot UK's Kris Meeke will have a point to prove on the RACMSA Rally of Scotland next weekend, the penultimate round in the 2010 Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Meeke won the IRC drivers' title last year, however, this season his title defence has been unsuccessful due to a spate of crashes and technical maladies.

He has now vowed to end his stint in the IRC with a win on his home event and make up for the disappointment of being stripped of first place on the rally last year due to a technical infringement.

"It's fair to say things haven't gone as smoothly for me this year as they did last year so to end the year on a high with a win in Scotland would be very special," said Meeke, who was recently confirmed by Mini as one of its WRC drivers for 2011. "It's a great event with some fantastic stages. After having my victory taken away from last year I'd love to get my own back and get that win."

Meeke meanwhile will start the event 'match fit' having competed in the Rally Costa Smeralda this weekend (October 7-9). He is taking in the Italian championship event to support Paolo Andreucci's domestic title bid. Andreucci won the IRC-counting Rallye Sanremo last month and leads the Italian series as a result.

By tackling the gravel event, Meeke, who will drive a Peugeot 207 S2000 similar to the one he uses in the IRC, will be able to practice driving on loose surfaces ahead of the trip to Scotland.

"We're going there to help Paolo and Peugeot, pure and simple, but it will be good to get back in the car on gravel so close to Scotland," added the 31-year-old, who's last appearance in Sardinia for the IRC-counting Rally d'Italia-Sardegna, ended in disappointment when he suffered a dramatic crash, which was captured live on Eurosport.
